Tata Tiago launched with attractive colour and powerful engine

Tata Tiago: Tata Tiago In the low-cost hatchback category, not many names shine brighter than the Tata Tiago.

This small hatchback has been popular amongst Indian customers primarily for its robust build quality, intelligent design, and frugal features ever since its introduction.

Whether you are a first-time buyer or someone after an efficient city car, the Tiago has made a case for itself as a good all-rounder.

Tata Motors has been upgrading the Tiago over the years, and currently, it gives a tough fight to rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and Renault Kwid.

The Tiago, a blend of style, performance, safety and value for money still remains one of Tata’s biggest hits in India.

Exterior Design

Tiago doesn’t look like any other budget hatchback out there. It has a sporty and youthful appearance that caters to a broad audience.

At the front, the polished grille with chrome highlights integrates harmoniously with the headlamps to form a flow line that stretches the look of the vehicle to the side.

The dynamic bumper design makes the vehicle look aggressive while retaining a confident road presence with its distinct body line.

On the sides, you have 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels (in higher trims), body-colored door handles and a well-proportioned design. The rear has LED tail lamps, a roof spoiler and a neat bumper design.

It looks premium than what its price may suggest and the overall styling is mature yet modern.

Interior and Features

Open the door of the Tiago, and you are greeted with a well-screwed together cabin.

The dashboard is contemporary, while the interiors have been done up in a premium black-and-grey dual tone. Fit and finish are well done, especially for a car in this class.

The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The instrument in cluster in digital, the controls mounted on the steering and the automatic climate control (top models) make the driving comfortable and connected as well.

The Harman sound system is a highlight as well, and surprised us with its good quality.

There’s reasonable headroom and legroom for four adults and the 242-litre boot is usable for a spot of city errands or weekend bags.

Engine and Performance

The Tata Tiago is driven by a 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that offers 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque.

It’s available with 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT (automated manual transmission) option.

The engine is designed more for mellow, urban driving and is considered good within the lower and middle speed limitations.

The manual transmission shifts smoothly, and the AMT is useful in city traffic.

One of the best in the segment in terms of ride quality and suspension does a good job in handling bad roads.

Average numbers are pretty good as well — while the petrol returns between 19–20 km/l or so, depending on how one drives and the traffic.

Safety and Build Quality

Safety is also a major reason why people trust the Tiago. It has hit a 4 star rating in Global NCAP crash tests, which ultimately makes it one of the safest car in its category.

Safety Equipment:is Dual Front Airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, corner stability control, and a robust steel body structure from Tata.

Tata have also thrown in a nice variety of safety features on even the base models - which is a good move given how safety seems to be positioned at the forefront, but that’s another story altogether.
