Tata Curvv – The Design & Real World Innovation by Tata Motors pushes the boundaries of the Automotive World of SUV’s! Debuted as a concept but now on the road to production, the Curvv wants to offer the rugged look of an SUV and the sporty feel of a coupe.
Launching as an EV initially and later with ICE (petrol/diesel) engines, the Curvv represents Tata’s arrival in a new, futuristic design direction that raises the bar in the mid-size SUV category.
Coupe-inspired Design From the Future
The most attractive aspect of the Tata Curvv is its coupe SUV design, a segment that is still fresh in the Indian market.
It’s looking mean and moody with its sloping roofline, flush door handles, sleek LED lighting and strong proportions.
It’s perched up on a platform, yet it flows in a way that reminds me of a sporty fastback, convenient and organic.
Front Wearing a full-width LED DRL bar, angular triangular design elements and a neat futuristic nose in line with the design of Tata’s next-gen electric vehicles.
The rear looks as impressive with linked LED taillamps and an imposing roof spoiler that lend the Curvv a global appeal.
This isn’t just for show, however; it’s all about attracting city dwellers who want to stand out from the crowd without sacrificing the practicality of an SUV.
Premium Cabin That is Up to Date
We also expect the Tata Curvv’s cabin to have a minimalist, clean design inside.
A floating touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster were displayed alongside the two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata insignia.
While specific production details remain unclear, Tata is expected to provide wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, connected car tech and multi-zone climate control.
And so there are quality materials and differing layers of texture, with the cabin feeling quite premium, comparing with those in higher segments price-wise.
The Curvv also claims decent room for five adults. Owing to the wide body and long wheelbase, occupants will find plenty of leg and head room despite the sleek roofline.
Boot space is likely to be generous as well, which is good news for families and their road trips.
Electric and ICE Powertrains
Enter the Curvv, which is special in one regard ‒ it will debut as an EV (Electric Vehicle).
Based on Tata’s Generation 2 EV platform, it’s likely it’ll offer between 400–500 km of range on a single charge, which is competitive in the burgeoning mid-spec EV segment.
Expect the Curvv EV to feature fast charging, multiple drive modes and regenerative braking as well.
It’s promised to be more responsive and to deliver the instant torque and silent motoring one associates with electric cars.
So, after the EV, petrol and diesel, versions are likely to be available.
The carmaker could use its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol or the 1.5-litre diesel, and we expect both manual and automatic transmissions. “This is more approachable to traditional and contemporary consumers.”
Ride Quality and Safety
So we still know nothing about how it drives, but on road testing Tata’s, like the Nexon and Harrier, have never really had an issue with ride quality and handling.
And the Curvv’s balanced, city-friendly and highway-stable suspension setup is likely to only improve on that.
The Curvv is expected to take Tata’s safety focus ahead. Backed by a robust construction, ̀multiple airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, hill hold, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on higher trims, the Curvv is set to post high among crash safety ratings.
