Nissan Magnite launched with comfortable features and more mileage

Nissan Magnite: In a competitive space that’s rapidly becoming crowded, one new entrant in the budget-friendly compact SUV segment is really turning heads – and Nissan Magnite quickly makes its mark.

Unveiled as Nissan’s returning poster boy in the Indian market, the Magnite sports a fantastic combination of forward-styled design, contemporary features and hard to ignore pricing.

It’s not merely a price play, however — it offers a solid all-around offering appropriate for a first-time car purchaser or a city family on the go.

What the Magnite does do, though, is bring SUV appearance, smart tech, and usable space into an entry-level price point — a combination that was less common before. But what is it like in the real world? Let’s take a closer look.

Bold and Striking Design

At the first look, the Magnite doesn’t appear to be a budget SUV. It looms large, both in height and span.

The flagship of the range boasts a large octagonal grille, sharp LED headlamps merged by L-shaped DRLs and a bonnet that looks like it’s etched with prayers of the faithful at the temple.

With the side profile, 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and black body cladding provides sporty cues. In the back, the wrap around tail lights and chrome accents do a nice job of bringing it all together.

The Magnite is everything it was promised to be in terms of SUV styling without the tag.

Inside: No Nonsense And Full Of Ammenties

The Magnite is spacious inside the cabin for a compact SUV. The dashboard design is unfussy yet effective, with the 7-inch digital instrument cluster and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system ensuring the drive remains current.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the top trims and work quickly and intuitvely.

The feel of the cabin materials are basic but the fit and finish is tidy and well assembled. There’s space for four adults to sit comfortably and the 336 litres of boot space are decent for weekend luggage.

Considerate touches like rear AC vents, a wireless charging pad and ambient lighting (on higher trims) enhance user experience.

Engine and Ride Performance

Nissan Magnite: Engine The Nissan Magnite comes with two petrol engine options.

1.0-litre NA petrol (72PS and 96NM)

It will be available with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (100 PS/160 Nm manual / 152 Nm CVT) option.

This aspirated engine is adequate for smooth city driving, whereas you need the turbo diesel engine for extra performance up a hill or when overtaking on the open road.

The CVT automatic coupled to the turbo engine is both smooth and takes some of the edge off dealing with busy traffic areas.

The suspension setup is designed for comfort, so you don’t get thrown around as much by potholes and bumps. The steering is light and ideal for darting through city traffic, but it could feel a bit numb at higher speeds.

On the whole, the Magnite is pleasant and composed to drive.

Safety and Features

Nissan has loaded the Magnite with a decent mix of safety kit:

Twin airbags (6 in higher variants)

ABS with EBD

Hill Start Assist

TC AND ESC Yes Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

360-degree camera (top trims)

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

These are features that we generally see in more expensive cars, so the Magnite is well ahead in terms of safety for its segment.

Pros:

Robust looking with aggressive SUV styling and posture

Turbo engine delivers zippy performance

Packed with features for the price

Smooth to ride and decent ground clearance (205mm)

360-degree camera and digital cluster are worthwhile optional extras

Cons:

Cabin plastics feel basic

We were unimpressed by the 1.0L NA engine at full load.

Limited service networks in some areas

High-mileage users should opt for petrol or an alternative diesel-powered car if offered.

Nissan Magnite: Conclusion

The Nissan Magnite is amongst one of the most value-for-money compact SUVs available in India today.

It combines the appearance of an SUV, the essential equipment of an SUV, modern technology — and a very affordable price.

Although not without its trade-offs, it’s a hard package to beat at this price point.

The Magnite should be seriously considered by those looking to buy a stylish, practical and fuel efficient SUV under 10 lakh.
