MG Windsor EV: MG Motor has finally launched its much-anticipated Windsor EV in India, marking the brand’s third electric offering in the country after the ZS EV and Comet. Priced between ₹9.99 lakh and ₹14.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Windsor positions itself as a compelling option for buyers looking to make the switch to electric mobility without breaking the bank.
Distinctive Design That Turns Heads
The Windsor EV sports a fresh design language that distinguishes it from MG’s existing lineup. With its crossover silhouette, the car strikes a balance between the practicality of a hatchback and the presence of an SUV. The front fascia features a blanked-out grille (typical of EVs) adorned with the iconic MG logo that illuminates when the car is charging.
“We wanted to create something unmistakably MG but with a forward-looking aesthetic,” says Prakash Sharma, Head of Design at MG Motor India. “The Windsor’s proportions are deliberate—compact enough for city maneuverability but with enough road presence to make a statement.”
Chrome accents run along the window line, while the 16-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels not only look good but also help reduce drag. The LED light bar that stretches across the rear adds a touch of modernity and improves visibility at night.
Performance That Surprises
Under its sleek exterior, the Windsor packs a punch with its 45kWh battery that delivers a claimed range of 340 kilometers on a single charge—though real-world tests suggest closer to 300km in mixed driving conditions. The electric motor produces 156 horsepower and 280Nm of torque, figures that translate to surprisingly sprightly performance.
The car accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 7.9 seconds, making it quicker than many internal combustion engine vehicles in the same price bracket. What’s more impressive is the instant torque delivery characteristic of electric motors, which makes city driving and overtaking maneuvers a breeze.
“You’ll notice how responsive it feels,” noted Anand Kulkarni, Product Development Head at MG India, during a media drive event last week. “We’ve calibrated the throttle response to be intuitive without being jerky—a common complaint with some EVs.”
Tech-Loaded Interior That Impresses
Step inside the Windsor EV, and you’re greeted by a cabin that punches above its weight class. The centerpiece is a 14.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that controls everything from navigation to climate settings. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while also featuring MG’s i-SMART technology with over 75 connected car features.
The fully digital instrument cluster provides all essential information and can be customized according to driver preference. Other notable features include a panoramic sunroof, 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 360-degree camera system that makes parking in tight spaces a cinch.
Charging Solutions for Practical EV Ownership
MG understands that charging infrastructure remains a concern for potential EV buyers. To address this, the Windsor comes with a 7.4kW AC home charger that can juice up the battery from 10% to 100% in approximately 6 hours. Using a 50kW DC fast charger, the same charge can be achieved in just 55 minutes.
“We’re also offering Windsor buyers three years of free charging at our partner charging stations across the country,” revealed Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India. “Additionally, our roadside assistance program includes emergency charging services to alleviate range anxiety.”
MG Windsor EV: Market Positioning and Future Plans
The Windsor EV enters a market that’s seeing increased activity in the electric vehicle space. It competes directly with the Tata Nexon EV and the lower variants of the Hyundai Kona Electric, while offering better features than the former and undercutting the latter in price.

MG aims to sell around 2,000 units of the Windsor monthly, an ambitious target considering current EV adoption rates in India. However, with government incentives for electric vehicles and rising fuel prices, the company believes the timing is right for more consumers to make the switch.
“The Windsor represents our commitment to democratizing electric mobility in India,” said Chaba. “By 2026, we plan to have electric variants for each of our model lines, and the Windsor is a crucial step in that journey.”
